Sojourn Home Church is an opportunity to rest along the journey. Wherever you are, whoever you are, you are invited, you are welcome. We are a progressive, justice-driven, collective of seekers animated by ritual as utopic action.

We come from many traditions and beliefs and identities and histories — we contain multitudes. We vibrate with hope and we shout for joy. We celebrate the magic moments of this life by joining together with things, words, songs, smells, tastes, and feelings inside and out. We honor the universe with a sense of wonder and proclaim divine mystery through curiosity and play. We aren’t attempting to save a tradition because we are composting and growing together.

Whether through history, choice, or curiosity, if the stories of Jesus are a part of your practice, you will be familiar with some of our celebrations. If the Jesus story is not a part of your practice, you won’t be missing out. We’re exploring not repeating.

The earliest followers of Jesus celebrated his stories and messages in their homes; this moment in our world calls on us to do the same. Sojourn House Church takes place in your home, through Zoom. For each celebration, we share beautiful materials with you and then invite you to join an interactive, live ritual practice with all of our members.

CHURCH IN YOUR HOME

Sojourn started with an Easter Vigil gathered around our kitchen table. The next year’s Easter Vigil was in the midst of a global pandemic. So we gathered on Zoom. The same for Midnight Mass before Christmas. But this time with little ritual kits for us all to participate with the same things. Smells and lights and cards and communion. Alone together we’re somehow home.

Home is where Church is. It’s where the deepest sorrows and the greatest joys are contained. For so many people church recalls pain and exclusion. Trauma from years gone by. Our Church begins with you, at home, safe. It’s an invitation into collective mystery and meaning-making. It’s a balm for wounds. It’s a way to heal and grow. It’s an invitation to a more just and joyful world. —Rev Dr Clare Hammoor
